ABMC #16 – Maximum Overdrive

If we made them and they made you, who made this awful movie?

Stephen King, disgusted with the results of previous film adaptations of his work, took the reigns (and even appears in the opening scene) of this tale of possessed bridges, trucks and other machines. Controlled by the tail of a comet, these devices run amok and kill their users, who can’t seem to escape their path no matter how much warning they are given.

Beyond the preposterousness of the premise, this movie is just plain dumb. Awards should be given to the unlucky souls who make it all the way to the stupefying end. Appearances by Emilio Estevez and the voice of Lisa Simpson do little to keep it interesting, but the kick-ass score by AC/DC is enough to wake you up and remind you that yes, this movie is still on.
